David comes to us with the reputation of an exceptional speaker on both these topics. He will be bringing handouts to accompany his presentation.

Programme for the Seminar

The seminar is divided into two parts.

Part 1: Understanding Traumatic Bereavement

In the morning, David Trickey will talk about Understanding Traumatic Bereavement. He will discuss the way in which the traumatic nature of some deaths seems to obstruct some people’s ability to grieve; every time they try to recall the person’s life, they are automatically confronted with images of the way in which they died. It is therefore necessary for them to “process” the memory of the event of the death, so that they can access memories of the person’s life and grieve their loss.

Part 2: What We Know Helps Bereaved Children & Young People

The afternoon talk is entitled What we know helps bereaved children and young people. This talk examines what many child bereavement services offer as part of their intervention, and considers what research tells us about how they can help.
